Four Skyline High School seniors won first place in a statewide youth entrepreneurship competition.

The two pairs of students developed concepts, business plans and now are working on the prototypes for a water purification system using solar energy and a sonar device to help the blind navigate to be named 2012 Young Innovators.

All four students are members of Skyline’s Design, Technology and Environmental Planning magnet. As part of their magnet capstone course, the students began working in pairs to identify, research, design and construct a solution to an open-ended engineering problem.

Three members of the MTEEA attended the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association’s International Conference that was held in Minneapolis, MN in March. These professionals represented our association by participating in the President’s Roundtable meeting, Governance session, visiting the world’s largest technology and engineering education trade exhibition, and attending a variety of professional development workshops designed for technology and engineering teachers.

MTEEA has coordinated the association’s work in the past year with ITEEA assisting in the development of membership recruitment responsibilities, public information, communications, and activities requiring governmental action of both groups.

Members attending the ITEEA Conference were: Nathan Bush, Tom Pachera (DTE), and Bill VanLoo.

Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 24, 2011 – Nathan Bush of Saline, Michigan was recently honored by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association as one of 36 teachers from across the U.S. to receive its prestigious Teacher Excellence Award.

The award is one of the highest honors given to technology education classroom teachers and is presented in recognition of each recipient’s outstanding contribution to the profession and to his or her students. The awards were distributed as part of ITEEA’s second general conference session.
